History
Credo was formed in 1998 as a partnership between health professionals and people who have suffered a period of mental illness. It was recognised that those who have suffered mental ill health or have spent a period of time in hospital are sometimes less than confident about returning to the pressures of home and work.
Credo operates as a bridge for individuals between a period of un-wellness and a return to regular work or re-training.
We provide our members with a friendly, enjoyable and supported work environment, where they might gain the necessary skills and confidence to return to regular work or further education.
Our aim has been to challenge society's less than tolerant attitude towards those individuals with mental illness by encouraging members to build new skills, confidence and self belief through the medium of art and creativity.
Under the supervision of trained ceramicists, members are encouraged to explore their creativity and potential to produce high quality ceramics. These items are then sold and exhibited throughout the Borough of Bromley
In addition Credo members are encouraged to become actively involved in various aspects of running the charity, such as the planning of exhibitions/sales, administration, computer work and business planning.
Operation
Credo operates from facilities provided by Bromley MIND at the rear of Anchor House, 5, Station Road, Orpington, Kent and from Yeoman House, Croydon Road, Penge.
Credo's Orpington workshop is open to members on Mondays and Tuesdays, between 10.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. Members may attend for either one or both sessions.
Credo's Penge operation is open on Fridays, 10.00 a.m. - 4.00 p.m.
On average members stay with us for a period of 8-12 months, although given the nature of mental ill health we do not stipulate time limits for participation.
The Credo project works on a goal-orientated approach, tailored to the individual members' needs. Regular reviews are held (approx every 3-4 months,) between member, Credo Project Worker and a Health Professional to ensure expectations and goals are being met and managed.
