Project Name: Introduction to Art
Funder: Reaching Communities
Partner Organisation: Local Artist - Greg D'Souza
Location: Art Studio, Hayes
Duration: May - June
Target Audience: Individuals with lived experience of mental ill health
As part of Credo's funding through The Big Lottery Fund's "Reaching Communities" programme, Credo is extended its involvement in arts and crafts beyond the world of ceramics.
Credo worked with local artist, Greg D'Souza, to put together an introductory art course for individuals with lived experience of mental ill health who had never undertaken any painting, sketching or drawing before.
Participants worked with Greg at his art studio in Hayes every Wednesday morning for a 6-week period. For people who had never done any art before, it was a real eye-opener to see the beautiful paintings and drawings they produced. They were framed and exhibited at a Credo's two-week exhibition held at the Bromley Central Library in October.
Credo was very grateful to Greg for his excellent teaching and sense of humour! A number of participants have returned to work with Greg independently.
Greg D'Souza commented 'The standard of painting and drawing is quite incredible - particularly when you consider that nobody has had any formal art training and, in most cases, never picked up a brush before.'
