Joan's Story
I had been a patient in Green Parks House for several weeks when, one Thursday morning, one of the Health Care Assistants asked me if I would like to go to the pottery class in the dining room. Initially I said "no", as I still wasn't feeling great and said I wouldn't be any good; but she urged me, saying there was a very nice lady taking the class.
I made myself a cup of tea and, seeing the lady in question sitting at the table, totally alone, I ventured into the room and was greeted with a very friendly smile and a sincere "hello". We introduced ourselves to each other and that's how I first met Anne.
Anne and I chatted for the whole of the session as if we were long lost mates. In between chatting, she showed me how to make a pig. I was so pleased with my ‘masterpiece' - I actually asked if I could join the afternoon Occupational Therapy group. And from then on I was hooked, going down to the studio every week until I was discharged three months' later.
I had asked Anne if I could join Credo and become a regular member and, to my delight, she said "yes". So, after an informal interview, I was accepted as a member.
It is almost two years since I joined Credo and I have got to say that, if it hadn't been for this, I am sure I wouldn't be as well today as, thankfully, I am.
Also Credo offered me a place at Greg D'Souza's art classes, which I accepted, and I have now found that I can sketch a bit too! Greg is a very charming, entertaining man who is a successful artist and sculptor and he made every lesson a treat. I enjoyed his course immensely.
Many, many thanks to Anne, Jehan, Jan and all the other smashing people I share my time with at Credo.
Thank goodness for one Thursday morning.
